Hey! Did you compete at the U.I.L. Competition on Saturday at Alton Memorial Junior High School? I did! And I'm so happy. I placed in the 2 events I competed in. 4th place in Ready Writing. And 1st place in Maps, Graphs, and Charts!!! 1st place!!!!!! Do you want to join U.I.L? Here are some events you can do and what you do to compete.
1. Spelling - self explanatory
2. Number Sense - 10 minutes to answer 80 questions, with tricks and shortcuts to make it easier.
3. Ready Writing - You have 2 hours to write a story of the topic you choose out of 2 given.
4. Maps, Graphs, and Charts - You are given a packet of questions, a ruler, pencil, and an atlas. You have 45 minutes to answer all the questions. On some pages, there are graphs and charts with questions of their own.
5. Listening Skills - You listen to a story and afterwards have to answer questions about it. The twist is that you cannot go back so listen carefully.
6. Prose - It is like Oral Reading. You have to read a story and pour feeling into it. Like you are the character in the story.
Wow! And these are just a few. Ask your principal about U.I.L. if you would like to join!

Camryn
